What is DC LAX?

DC LAX is unlike an area travel team, we are a team that is passionate about the sport of lacrosse comprised of girls who are exemplary leaders who lead in the classroom and in the community. We also know how difficult it can be to balance Youth/High School sports with a year round travel team, which is why we provide an affordable price with a flexible schedule. Based on interested with either enter the areas top local tournaments to accommodate our athletes who are involved with other sport/club activities through their area middle/high schools, or provide out of season opportunities to play and grow during times where there is not enough interest to field a travel team. There is NO annual contract, and athletes have the option to borrow a donated alumni uniform in place of purchasing a custom uniform.

When was DC LAX established?

DC LAX played their first season Fall of 2013. The club team has since expanded to include as many as three middle/high school teams, one todder league and one post-collgiate womens summer team.

Member Run Camp/Clinic

Members are required to participate in at least one camp, team volunteer opportunity or clinic per year geared at underprivileged youth, or developing the sport of lacrosse in the areas of VA/DC/MD. DC LAX will strive to offer multiple service opportunities throughout the year so that members can meet this goal. Non-participation in any DC LAX community service opportunities may result in loss of membership in DC LAX. This is a formula that really keeps DC LAX affordable and unique!

What do the tournament team dues cover? Are there any other expenses?

The team dues covers all practices, tournament fees and coaches’ fees for the tournament season (as listed above some seasons DC LAX may not have enough interest to field a tournament team).  The fee does NOT include travel expenses such as transportation, lodging, meals, ect. Our program will assign each player their roster number.  On a volunteer basis, families will be asked to provide and coordinate team snacks and drinks on tournament days. The seasonal club team fee does NOT include the optional team spirit pack.

How many tournaments are played and where are they?

DC LAX participates in 1-2 tournaments (varies per team) each season. Tournaments range from 1-2 days, and a full-day commitment is usually required per tournament day.  DC LAX selects tournaments that are approximately a 1-2 hour drive from Northern Virginia to avoid hotel costs for our members and their families.

How much play time will my daughter get?

All players will play in every tournament. Duration of play is at the Coaches Discretion and is based on a number of factors largely based on who will provide the best opportunity for success on the field. Players wishing to play must be in excellent physical condition and be committed to constantly improving their skills. Selection of athletes for games will be based on several factors they include, but are not limited to:   1) Positional needs, 2) Athletic ability and game skills, 3) Attitude, effort and sportsmanship, 4) Interaction with the team and coaching staff, 5) Attendance and performance at practice and games.

Where and when are practices?
DC LAX aims to host 3-4 practices per season. Practices are typically held on Sunday afternoons in the areas of Fairfax, Vienna and Falls Church.

Why are the tournaments attended only in November and June?
In addition to providing a flexible schedule to accommodate athletes who play multiple sports, we wanted to ensure that our athletes have the ability to attend college clinics and camps that kick off in late June when school gets out, and during winter break in the months of December and January. College Camps and Clinics are the number one way to get recruited for those wishing to play at the next level, coaches who attend tournaments will ultimately ask players who they are very interested in to attend a camp or clinic the coach will be attending to better get to know a player. College Camps and Clinics are costly, most range from $300-$500 for overnight camps and $50-$200 for single day clinics. Our program works to acquire group discounts so that our DC Laxers can attend camps/clinics of group interest at a discounted price! Our staff having played lacrosse in college as well, know how busy Head coaches and their staff are in the months of October coaching their own college programs during college Fall Ball training and competition, for this reason, we specifically seek Fall tournaments in November and Summer Tournaments that wrap up prior to July when most of the colleges begin their program camps and clinics.

What if a practice or tournament gets cancelled?
If a practice or tournament is cancelled refunds will NOT be issued by DC LAX. Many tournaments do not issue refunds or rain dates. DC LAX will try to reschedule cancelled practices if possible.

Refunds:

Refund Requests must be made in writing by email to dclaxorg@gmail.com. A missed practice or tournament is not eligible for a refund. Refund requests will be reviewed on a case by case scenario and any amount of refund granted will be decided by the club director.
